PROGRAM
The Hereford Rec Lacrosse program offers teams for boys and girls of all skill abilities, aged 3 through 15 years old and is intended for players interested in playing lacrosse.
Scoops
Co-Ed clinic program for girls and boys ages 3-4. No equipment necessary. Program follows US Lacrosse LADM curriculum designed to introduce skills through simple games. Season starts on or around April 1st and runs through May 24th (approx.). Practices are at Sparks Elementary or Fifth District Elementary. T-shirt provided for all players. New players receive a stick.
Spirit
Clinic programs for girls and boys ages 5-6. (Six-year-olds that have played Spirit lacrosse for two years are encouraged to play in the In-House TYKER league this year). One practice a week and one in-house game a week played on Saturdays or Sundays (location TBD but likely at Sparks Elementary School). A mouthguard and goggles are required for girls and full equipment is required for boys. A reversible pinny is provided for all players and a stick will be distributed to all new players that have registered for the first time in the rec lacrosse program. Season starts on or around April 1st and runs through May 24th (approx.).
Tyker Boys In-House
In-house program for boys in 1st-2nd grades. All participants are evaluated in late February or early March. Date/Times/Location, TBD. Players will then be divided into equal teams to play in an “in-house” league format. Two practices and 1-2 games a week against other Hereford in-house teams. All games and practices held at Hereford Middle School, with possible shifts depending on field availability.
Tyker Boys Travel
If there is sufficient interest, tryouts will be held in late February or early March. Date/Times/Location, TBD. We hope to field one travel team, which will play games against other local rec Tyker teams through the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA). Two practices per week and 1-2 games on weekends, with “away” games at other local fields (the final schedule will be created by MYLA). There will be additional costs to cover MYLA fees for refs and possible end of season tournaments.
Tyker Girls In-House
In-house program for girls in 1st-2nd grades. All participants are evaluated in late February or early March. Date/Times/Location, TBD. Players will then be divided into equal teams to play in an “in-house” league format. Two practices and 1-2 games a week against other Hereford in-house teams. All games and practices held at Sparks Elementary, with possible shifts depending on field availability.

Lightning (boys and girls), Midget (boys and girls) & Junior (boys and girls)
All boys and girls teams will practice twice a week and have 1-2 games a week. These teams will compete against surrounding programs in the MYLA league. All players are guaranteed a spot on a team but teams may play in different divisions within the MYLA league depending on an early season evaluation and by each team’s coach.
UNIFORMS
We are using the same uniforms as spring of 2025. If you ordered a uniform last season, you do not need to order a new one unless you need a new size. If your child’s uniform is older than from the 2024 season, you will need to order a new one when registering.
EQUIPMENT
All Spirit, Tyker, Lightning, Midget & Junior players must provide their own equipment. Boys must have a helmet with chin strap, mouth guard, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, and a boy’s stick. Girls must have a mouth guard, approved eye protection and a girl’s stick. NOTE: Spirit players who are registered in the rec lacrosse program for the first time will be provided a stick. Scoops players are provided a stick and do not need any other equipment. All boys shoulder pads must meet the new NOCSAE standard. New shoulder pads should be fine but, if you’re purchasing used equipment, make sure that the shoulder pads have the NOCSAE logo and SEI certification mark.
COACHES
If you would like to be a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach for the spring season, please indicate this in the Volunteer Options portion of the registration process.
REFUND POLICY
Registration cancelations will be refunded prior to March 1, 2025. An administrative fee of $30 will be assessed ($15 for Spirit & Scoops program). Refunds after the start of the spring season will be granted on a case-by-case basis.
